Ponds Coalition for Change

About Us

The Coalition for Change was formed in response to concerns raised by Ponds shareholders who care deeply about the future of their community. The Coalition supports responsible board leadership built on transparency, sound financial oversight, and respectful communication.

By focusing on these principles, the Coalition seeks to strengthen community trust, maintain the property to a high standard, and support a stable financial future for the Ponds.

Why Change is Needed.

For years, the shareholders have raised the same concerns. Those concerns remain unresolved.

FINANCIAL MISMANAGEMENT

  • The Daniels Drain project added $900,000 in new debt.
  • No strategic plan exists to pay off the existing $3.1 million in existing mortgage debt.
  • Recent shareholder costs have increased by more than 20%.

OPERATIONAL FAILURES

The board has used the management company as a buffer to force residents to voice their concerns to an uninterested 3rd party and remove the themselves from any contact with the Ponds community. This has resulted in several operational failures.

  • Interaction with the residents is consistently reported as unprofessional.
  • Phone calls and inquiries often go unanswered.
  • Shareholder accounts contain frequent billing errors.
  • Maintenance costs have risen to 50% of the annual budget despite each shareholder being responsible for the maintenance of their own unit.
  • Major capital improvement contracts are awarded without competitive bid processes.
  • All maintenance decisions rest with a single individual who has no daily supervision.

THE RISK OF MAINTAINING THE STATUS QUO

  • Continued mortgage debt growth without a repayment plan.
  • Ongoing cost increases to shareholders.
  • Lack of board transparency.
  • No board financial accountability.

A Qualified Solution

Meet DR. Tonya VanOrder

I recently became a shareholder in the Ponds Cooperative and have enjoyed making many new friends. I am interested in joining the board to help create a new tradition of efficient, streamlined property operations and foster a positive community culture.

As the current Treasurer for the National Association for Hospital Medical Education (AHME), I have board leadership experience, overseeing the finances of a nearly 1,000 member association focused on providing medical education leaders with the tools and knowledge to manage programs and develop future generations of physicians.

As DIO and Director of Medical Education at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital, in Grand Blanc, Michigan, I oversee all medical education, physician residency, and fellowship programs for the hospital, including managing all program budgets, accreditation and operations.

I received my undergraduate degree from Purdue University, my Ph.D. from Michigan State University and my M.B.A. in Business Administration from University of Michigan.

Please join me in making positive changes to create a wonderful community here at the Ponds.
